Monymusk is a planned estate village laid out around a green, with the squat tower of its old parish church at one end. St Mary’s is one of the few surviving Romanesque churches in the north-east — have a look inside if it’s open. The village sits quietly on the Don, about 10km from Kintore station, and makes a peaceful pause on a Donside drive.
