Once the country estate of the Rothschild family, Gunnersbury Park became a public park in the 1920s and is now run jointly by the boroughs of Ealing and Hounslow. The grounds keep an orangery, an 18th-century temple and Italian gardens from its private days, and the old mansion houses a free local history museum with a genuinely varied collection, from Georgian toys to Rothschild fashion. The park is open daily, roughly 7am to dusk; Chiswick House is a couple of miles south-east for more of the same.
