Rosslyn Chapel, founded in 1456 by William Sinclair, is famous for stone carving of extraordinary density — foliage, biblical scenes and the celebrated Apprentice Pillar, wrapped in twisting strands of stone. A local legend has a jealous master mason killing the apprentice who carved it. The chapel drew huge crowds after appearing in The Da Vinci Code, and it’s now a ticketed visitor attraction on the edge of Roslin. Eskbank is the nearest station, around 6km north-east.
