Here the priory church is the parish church, roofed and in use. Augustinian canons built it in the 1120s and it passed to Gloucester Abbey in 1146 as a Benedictine cell. The thing to look for is a pair of carved Norman capitals in the chancel — Mary Magdalene washing Christ’s feet, and the Nativity — cracking Romanesque work, possibly salvaged from the lost cloister arcade. Corbels on the south transept mark where that cloister roof once sat, and an earlier chapel stands just south-west, now a farm building. Open daily for prayer.
