Local highlightNot one beach so much as a single strip of Atlantic sand running the best part of twenty miles down the west side of South Uist, backed all the way by flower-rich machair. You reach it by machair tracks off the A865 — pick a spot and you’ll likely have the sand to yourself. Lonely Planet once rated it among the finest beaches in Europe, and it’s not hard to see why.
