Miles of white shell-sand and turquoise shallows below the Harris hills, Luskentyre turns up again and again on lists of the best beaches in Europe — and yet you’ll often have it more or less to yourself. It’s on the west coast of South Harris, signed off the A859 down a single-track road, with parking near the cemetery. Bring layers: the colour is Caribbean, the wind isn’t.
