Robert Hawker was vicar here for some forty years from the 1830s — the eccentric poet who gave shipwrecked sailors a Christian burial and built a driftwood hut on the cliff edge to write in. Hawker’s Hut is the smallest property the National Trust looks after, reached on foot along the coast path. Morwenstow is Cornwall’s northernmost parish; its church and the Bush Inn sit inland from high, exposed cliffs.
