Robert Hawker was vicar here from 1834 to 1874, and gave Christian burial to more than forty sailors wrecked on the rocks below. A ship’s figurehead marks the seamen’s graves in the churchyard, and the Norman church itself sits in a steep combe running down to the water. Open access; Hawker’s clifftop hut of driftwood, now the National Trust’s smallest property, is a short walk on. The Bush Inn stands nearby in Morwenstow.
