Llanidloes is the first town on the River Severn, counting down from the source up in the Hafren Forest. At its central crossroads stands a half-timbered market hall of about 1600, the only one of its kind left in Wales. The town makes a base for walks into the forest and around the Clywedog reservoir to the north.
