The showpiece at St Idloes’ is its arcade: a stretch of the aisled nave of the ruined Cistercian abbey at Cwmhir, carted over the hills after the Dissolution and re-set here in slightly jumbled order. Above it runs an elaborate 16th-century hammerbeam roof, the finest in the old county of Montgomeryshire. The church stands in the middle of Llanidloes and is open to visitors.
