Hartley Wintney is a village along the old London road in north-east Hampshire, known for its antique shops, a wide common and a cricket green said to be among the oldest in the country. The ‘Mildmay Oaks’, planted after Trafalgar to supply future timber for the navy, still stand on the common. Winchfield station is about 2km to the south.
