Uyea is a small rocky islet at the remote north-west tip of the Mainland, joined to the shore by a golden sand tombolo with turquoise pools among the stacks — one of Shetland’s most photographed wild corners. It’s hard-won: a long, trackless walk over open hill, and the sand bar covers at high tide, so it’s strictly for experienced, well-prepared hikers who’ve checked the tides.
