Lang Ayre is a wild red-shingle beach below the slopes of Ronas Hill, Shetland’s highest ground, on the Northmavine coast. There’s no path and no easy way down — reaching it means a long walk over open hill and a steep descent to the shore, so it’s really one for experienced walkers. The reward is a strand of pinkish granite stones that almost nobody else will be on.
