Noup Head is one of Orkney’s great seabird spectacles — sheer cliffs on the north-west corner of Westray, thronged in summer with gannets, guillemots and kittiwakes packed onto every ledge, below a squat white lighthouse. Getting there takes a ferry or flight to Westray, then a farm track and clifftop walk out to the point. Go in the breeding season for the full noise and smell of it.
