One of the country’s great unspoilt pubs, the Star Inn at Netherton has barely changed in decades — a single bare-boarded room, no bar counter, and ale carried out from a hatch. It’s listed on CAMRA’s national inventory of historic interiors, and its opening hours are famously limited, so check before you set off. Netherton is deep in the hills, well away from any station.
