Daphne du Maurier stayed here in 1930 and spun the place into her 1936 smuggling novel. The Jamaica Inn is a granite coaching inn of about 1750, standing alone in the middle of Bodmin Moor where the old road crossed the high ground. Inside are a smugglers’ museum and a room of du Maurier exhibits. A long way from any station — easiest reached straight off the A30.
