Knoll Gardens is the home ground of Neil Lucas, one of the leading names in ornamental grasses, who took the place on in 1994 and turned a formal tearoom garden into a loose, prairie-style planting of grasses and perennials. It holds the national collections of hardy Pennisetum and of Ceanothus, and doubles as a nursery. Late summer and autumn are the moment to come. Paid entry, open most of the year; near Hampreston, about 8km north of Branksome station.
