The Catholic Church of St Mary and St Finnan stands on a rise above Loch Shiel at Glenfinnan, its tower one of the landmarks on the Road to the Isles. It was built in 1873 to serve a district that had held to the old faith through the Jacobite years, and the view down the loch from the churchyard is a stunner. Glenfinnan station, on the Fort William–Mallaig line, is a few minutes’ walk away.
