Keills got its roof back in 1978, slate with a row of skylights, but not for services — the 1100s chapel works as a shelter for carved stones now, and the stones are why you’d come. Nearly 40 stand inside, mostly late-medieval West Highland grave slabs, along with the Keills Cross, carved in the 700s and the only free-standing high cross of its Iona-ish type on the Scottish mainland. The plain cross outside is a modern stand-in. Free and open, at the end of the single-track road past Tayvallich; Kilmory Chapel down the coast has its own collection.
