Stornoway (Steòrnabhagh) is the only town in the Outer Hebrides and the beating heart of Lewis — a busy harbour town with shops, cafés, a museum and the ferry terminal for the crossing to Ullapool. Across the water sit the wooded grounds and Victorian pile of Lews Castle, now a museum displaying some of the original Lewis Chessmen. It’s the hub of the island road network, so most trips run through here.
