Shoreham is a village in the Darent valley that the painter Samuel Palmer called his “valley of vision”, living and working here through the 1820s. A war-memorial cross, Shoreham Cross, is cut into the chalk hillside above the village. Shoreham (Kent) station is about 1km east.
