Porthleven is the most southerly working port in Britain, its harbour built from 1811 as a refuge on a wreck-strewn coast. The landmark clock-tower institute stands at the head of the harbour, and the village has earned a name for food in recent years — the Ship Inn sits right on the water. In big Atlantic swells the outer pier takes a battering, which is when the photographers turn up.
