Set almost on the sand at Church Cove, St Winwaloe is often called the Church of the Storms — its detached bell tower is built into the rock of the low headland beside it. Medieval, small and much weathered by the sea, it’s open to visitors. This is Gunwalloe, on the Lizard’s western shore; Penmere is the nearest station, roughly 18km to the north-east.
