An old granite house on the edge of the mining moors near Helston, Tudor and Stuart in date, with one of the most important early garden layouts in the country still readable in its walled enclosures and raised mounts. The Godolphin family grew rich here on tin and copper; the Godolphin Arabian, a founding sire of the thoroughbred racehorse, carried their name. National Trust, quiet and uncommercial: the garden and grounds are open all year, though the house itself only opens for one week each month. Hayle station is about 7km north-west.
