Kinlochbervie is about as far-flung as mainland fishing villages get, out at the end of the B801 in the far north-west at the head of Loch Inchard. Its harbour still lands shellfish and white fish, and the village is the usual jumping-off point for the walk to Sandwood Bay, one of Scotland’s great empty beaches, as well as the sands at Oldshoremore just along the road.
