Durness is the largest village in the far north-west corner of Scotland, a scatter of crofting townships strung along the coast above Sango Bay. Nearby are Smoo Cave, a huge sea cave with a waterfall inside, the craft village and pale beach at Balnakeil, and the ferry-and-minibus route out to the lonely Cape Wrath lighthouse. John Lennon spent childhood summers here, and a small memorial garden remembers him.
