A wide sweep of white sand and tall dunes at Balnakeil, just west of Durness on the far north coast. A minor road runs down to it and access is open; from the sand you can walk north along the dunes towards Faraid Head. It’s a gorgeous, blustery spot, and a fair drive from anywhere — the nearest railway is well over 50km away, so most people arrive by car on the North Coast 500.
