Coverack curves around a small harbour on the wild eastern side of the Lizard, its older cottages built from the local serpentine stone. It was long a fishing and, by repute, smuggling village; today the harbour is a quiet one and the water unusually clear. The coast path north runs past the Manacles, a reef off Lowland Point notorious for shipwrecks.
