Named for the light quartzite scree that gives their tops a grey, almost snow-dusted look, the Grey Corries run east from Ben Nevis, and Stob Choire Claurigh is their highest at 1,178m. It’s a Munro, a Scottish hill above 3,000 feet, at the north-east end of a long, narrow ridge. Walkers usually start from Roy Bridge or the Lairig Leacach to the south and link several summits along the crest, Stob Coire an Laoigh among them. The whole ridge sits in the Ben Nevis and Glen Coe hills, a long, committing day on rough ground high above Loch Treig.
