Ad Gefrin pairs a working whisky distillery with an Anglo-Saxon museum under one roof in Wooler, taking its name from Gefrin, the lost royal township that stood nearby at Yeavering in the 7th century. You can tour the stills, taste the single malt and eat in the bistro. Entry is ticketed and tour slots are worth booking ahead. It makes a civilised stop at the northern edge of the Cheviots.
