Gruinard Bay is a vast curve of pink-red sand backed by mountains, right beside the A832 between Laide and Dundonnell. Out in the bay sits Gruinard Island, contaminated by wartime anthrax experiments in 1942 and quarantined until it was finally declared safe again in 1990 — you can look, but there’s no cause to land. The beach itself is one of Wester Ross’s finest, with easy parking above the sand.
