Robert Owen's model mill village on the Clyde, a World Heritage Site.
A UNESCO World Heritage Site on a bend of the Clyde, New Lanark is a complete cotton-mill village built by David Dale in 1785. Under the reformer Robert Owen it became a model of decent housing, schooling and shorter working hours, an experiment that drew visitors from across Europe. The restored mills now run as a museum (paid entry), while the village itself is free to wander. Lanark station is about 1.5km away.
