Kingsclere is a large village under the north Hampshire downs, long a centre of racehorse training — Park House Stables above the village has produced Classic winners, including the great Mill Reef. The downland ridge to the south includes Watership Down, the setting Richard Adams gave his rabbits. Thatcham station, over the Berkshire border, is about 8km to the north.
