Battlesteads is a former farmstead turned green-minded inn at Wark, in the North Tyne valley. Alongside the rooms and restaurant it runs its own dark-sky observatory, with telescopes and astronomer-led stargazing sessions, plus a walled kitchen garden that feeds the menu. It’s well off the rail network — Haydon Bridge station is about 12km south — so you’ll want a car.
