Scotland's smallest county squeezes a lot into a short distance, from the flat carse of the River Forth to the steep southern wall of the Ochil Hills. The hills climb fast to Ben Cleuch, the highest of the range, above a string of old mill towns strung along their foot. A wooded gorge cuts up to Castle Campbell, the Lowland seat of the Argyll Campbells, past the falls of Dollar Glen. Lower down, Gartmorn Dam Country Park surrounds an early industrial reservoir, and villages such as Menstrie sit where hill meets plain.
