A simple 18th-century kirk up the Strath of Kildonan from Helmsdale, Kildonan Church stands at the heart of one of the most notorious Clearances districts, where whole glens were emptied for sheep in the early 1800s. Helmsdale station is close by if you’re coming up the coast.
