The highest hill in Sutherland, a remote quartzite ridge deep in the wild country of Assynt

Ben More Assynt is the highest hill in Sutherland, a rocky ridge of pale quartzite reaching 999m in the rough, trackless country east of Loch Assynt. It’s a Munro — a Scottish hill over 3,000 feet — and a properly remote one, with a long walk in and no easy lines to the top. Nearly everyone climbs it together with its neighbour Conival, usually starting from Inchnadamph on the road along Loch Assynt, and the connecting ridge is rough, bouldery going that wants care in poor visibility. It sits in the wider Assynt–Coigach landscape of strange, isolated peaks.
